Øyvind Sørfjordmo (b. 1987, Sarpsborg, Norway) works with painting and drawing to explore form, abstraction, and materiality. His process-based practice often develops multiple works at once, where intuitive gestures intersect with self-devised systems and methods. Many of his paintings grow from sculptural sketches and drawings, investigating the tactile and spatial possibilities of paint.
Sørfjordmo draws inspiration from natural, biological, and architectural systems, as well as music, and approaches each work as a space of shifting parameters. The outcomes are never fully predictable, inviting viewers to engage with surfaces, rhythms, and subtle visual nuances through careful observation.
He holds a BA from the Academy of Fine Art in Trondheim (2015) and an MA from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo (2018). Sørfjordmo has participated in residency programs in Paris, Berlin, Læsø, and Dale, Norway. In 2018 he received the Håkon Bleken painting grant, and his works are included in several collections, including the National Museum in Oslo, Trondheim Kunstmuseum, the Oslo City Art Collection, and the Collier Collection.
