Saturday October 5th, Louise Hindsgavl's exhibition "Recreated" opens in Ribe Museum of Art

In the exhibition "Recreated", internationally recognized ceramicist Louise Hindsgavl (b. 1973) exhibits new works that are based on the history and architecture of Ribe Kunstmuseum, twisting things in a new, surprising and humorous way.

The museum building was built by manufacturer Balthazar Giörtz, who owned a large cotton mill in Ribe. He went bankrupt, and his house was bought by the townspeople, who wanted an art museum in Ribe. The art museum would never have been created, if the citizens of Ribe had not contributed, and the building would also never have been built, if it were not for Giörtz´ weaving. This is the background for Louise Hindsgavl inviting locals to participate in the production of a 25-metre-long tapestry, which will be included in the exhibition as a symbol of the community of Ribe and the importance of the weaving mill for the town and the museum.

Hindsgavl grew up just outside Ribe and graduated from the Design School, Kolding in 1999. She works within a wide range of materials - everything from porcelain and stoneware to textiles and large-scale installations. .

The exhibition is the first part of a trilogy of exhibitions, where the museum invites three contemporary artists to create works of art based on the museum building, its history and architecture.

”Recreated" opens October 5th and will be on view through May 18th.
